MAY DEADLINES
Central State University – Summer Transportation Institute: The purpose of the Institute is to create awareness and stimulate interest in high school students of the opportunities that exist in the transportation industry. Thirty (30) rising 9 th, 10 th and 11 th grade students will receive full scholarships to participate in the four-week summer program and receive a stipend after completion of the program. Tuition, room and board, equipment/supplies and lab fees will be paid for. Students must have at least a 2.5 GPA, have an interest in engineering, science, transportation or technology related career. Must also have two letters of recommendation, write an essay (Why student wants to participate in the STI and how it can assist in meeting individual career goals), provide transcript, and have completed or be qualified to enroll in Pre-Algebra for the 08-09 school year. William K. Schubert, M.D. Scholarship: Students interested in majoring in nursing should apply. Students must complete the application, provide a high school transcript, complete a 750 word essay, have three letters of recommendation and a resume. Cincinnati Better Business Bureau Students of Integrity Junior Scholarship: Five -$1,000 scholarships will be awarded. Current Juniors (class of 09). Must complete a 1,000 word essay and have at least one adult reference who can attest to the student’s commitment of integrity. Go to: www.cincinnati.bbb.org. Deadline: May, 19, 2008.
JUNE DEADLINES
Minority Empowerment Initiative Trust Fund: Students must be Pell grant eligible with a financial need. Tax return documentation must be provided. Scholarship awards vary from $1,000 - $3,000 per school year. Students can pick up an application from Mrs. Oliver or program facilitator. See Mr. Ellie Johnson (Asst. Principal) for additional information. Deadline to apply is June 1, 2008.
Duke Energy – African-American Network: Students will be awarded based on academic achievement, honors, school participation, and career goal. Must have a letter of recommendation, complete an essay and complete the FAFSA. See Mrs. Oliver for application. Deadline to apply: June 1, 2008.

APPRENTICE/CAREER INFORMATION
Beauty School Scholarships: The Hornsby Group is offering $1,000 scholarships for students who enroll in the Western Hills School of Beauty & Hair Design, the Eastern Hills Academy of Hair Design or the Tri-County Beauty College . Students must enroll in one of the Beauty schools in 2008 or 2009. Please see Mrs. Oliver for a scholarship application. Five scholarships are offered per high school.
Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden: Spring and Summer Employment : Students must be at least 16 years of age to work in the Gift Shop and Food Service. Students must be at least 18 years of age to work in Admissions, Parking, Buildings, Grounds, and Rides. Students interested should download the application at: www.cincinnatizoo.org. Urban League Youth Road to Success Program: For students between the ages of 14-18. This program teaches you entrepreneur and social skills and assist students in intern programs. Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee will be taking applications for Plumber, Pipe Fitter and Mechanical Equipment Service Apprenticeship Programs.
