Dear WCTHS Families: To the families of Woodward Career Technical High School, I am so pleased to be able to greet you this winter season and to let you know about wonderful opportunities we have for our students. Our core business is providing your student with an excellent 21st century education. We boast of our 3 Academies: Health Technologies, Advanced Technologies and Building Technologies. Because we have the ability to provide our students with hands on, real world learning, we are able to open even more doors for success in our core academic courses: English, math, science and social studies. As a result, it is our goal that our students are either ready for college or they are equipped with the skills needed for immediate employment once they graduate. On January 23, 2012, our 2nd quarter report cards were mailed out. Please call the school, 363-9300, if you have not yet received your child’s report card. We have conferences scheduled for 5:00 – 7:00 on Wednesday, February 8, 2012. That evening, we will also host a school-wide Honor Roll assembly. You are invited and encouraged to join us. If you are not satisfied with your child’s 2nd quarter performance, please know there is free after school tutoring available through the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati Monday through Thursday. The After School League application may be picked up from the media center. This free tutoring is available to all of our students. The Ohio Graduation Test will be given to our 10th grade (5 credits) students, March 12 – 16, 2012. Our teachers have been doing an outstanding job of teaching our student according to the state of Ohio standards. Last year, our school earned an Ohio Department of Education rating of Continuous Improvement! This is an accomplishment we are extremely proud of. Our goal for this school year is to reach the Effective category. To provide additional support for this high stakes test (you must pass all 5 parts to graduate and to participate in the graduation ceremony), our faculty, staff and community volunteers will be available for tutoring on Saturday, February 4, 11, 18, 25, 2012 and March 3 and 10, 2012 from 9:00 – noon. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided to our students who participate. On another note, we are preparing for our annual Founder’s Day activities. We are excited to welcome all Woodward and Woodward Career Technical High School graduates to campus on Friday, March 9, 2012. Please look for the annual Alumnal Association Newsletter from President Terri Wallace. Finally, parents, you are encouraged to join our Parents Active for Woodward Students, PAWS, group. We meet every second Tuesday of the month and Mr, Dennis Bettis, our parent coordinator would love to hear ideas you have to make our school even better. As always, it is an honor to share this brief letter with you. If you have any need to speak with me, please feel free to contact me at school. I also look forward to seeing you on February 8, 2012, for conferences. Sincerely, Shauna Murphy |
